  About Digby Wesson

With 40 years in the marketing industry and working in every field of marketing.

Digby studied print and production and qualified in NTSC 1, 2 & 3 and ATC I and II. He currently holds nine diplomas in print and production and worked in these areas intensively early in his career, giving him a sound base to work from. Digby also studied art, photography, advertising, marketing, journalism and Public Relations, all of which have stood him in good stead with his clients, some of whom have been with him for 35 years.

Digby has worked on 'both sides of the fence', besides opening and running his own advertising agencies; PR, Eventing, Sales Incentive companies he also held the position of Marketing Director at Bonuscor (Midmacor/Honda) Group in the late seventies.

Digby's talents don't stop there, along with the top notch reputation he has gained in the advertising and PR fields over the last 40 years, he was also a well-known motor sport journalist and radio/TV personality during his Camel Motocross, Super cross, Camel Trophy and Formula 1 days, he handle both car/bike testing for the print media and radio, all car and motorcycle racing reporting, motor cycle racing live reports from the tracks. Staged international car and motorcycle events, serviced many F1 teams and drivers worked with international rally and off-road racing teams and organizers. One highlight was to bring the Paris Dakar now Dakar to South Africa for Camel, also assisting in the Paris to Cape event, plus set up for the International media and TV at the Cape stage and Finish.

Digby is also well known for his record 32 years work with RJR/JTI International Group Handling there tobacco and branded range under the WBI banner and all the events under GEM. The brands included Camel, Winston and a number of their other blue chip brands, Camel being the flagship brand, duties included all the sponsorship with world known events such as the Camel Trophy, Moto GP, F1, Winston WSBK Superbikes, international, Motocross, Supercross, Paris Dakar TV, International Golf / Golfers. He has traveled to places that one only reads about. As his portfolio of accounts shows, his expertise covers all above and below-the-line activities, PR, promotions, sponsorships, launches, Incentives and event marketing.

Specializing and concentrating in automotive market, Cars, Motorcycles, auto aftermarket products and all motorsport in both the four and two wheeled categories Working with all local and international world championship racing events, bringing new international events to SA and a huge number of televised international world class racing events and championships to the country for the SA TV channels Early is his career he did a joint association with the international motor sport PR gurus Jardine International PR in the UK who also operated in Europe, due to his involvement in F1, Dakar, Camel Trophy, Sasol F1 / Jordan F1, Moto GP, WSBK, Rally Raid, WRC, etc He still has this association today with Jardine International.

Always working with leading brands such as Camel, Castrol, Winston, Sasol, Honda, Nissan, Subaru, Land Rover, Metzeler, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Fiat, BMW Motorcycles, Alfa, Auto Glass, Bridgestone, Harley Davidson, F1 Teams Williams, Benetton, Jordan, Lotus, Tiger Wheels, Gilltette, Duracell, RJR, JTI, Motul, Holts, Beachcomber, Swiss Air, Air Mauritius, Stocks & Stocks, over the years and currently the Cayenne Group, Liqui Moly and Halewood International.

Joined Metcalf Advertising in 1970 as Production Director, then Promoted to Account Director.
Opened Punch Advertising in Swaziland, in 72 Joined FW Jackson Advertising as Production Director and Account Director in 74 and opened a PR company called Madison Avenue. Joined Midmacor/Honda as Group Marketing, Advertising, Events and PR/Promotions Director in 75, Started Spades Advertising and opened Wesson Wessels a PR company as Joint Managing Director for both companies, also opened design shop, Design Concepts, Landed the RJR/WBl/GEM Group, Camel business in 1979 and handled all the marketing, above and below the line, plus all sponsorships, PR, promotions and events. In 1981 he merged Spades Advertising with AC&R Advertising, an Agency within the Bates Wells Group. The PR Company changed to Wesson Wells. Wesson Wells PR tied up a joint deal with Jardine PR UK/Europe and the name was changed to Jardine Wesson, opened Event Marketing, Promotions and Sports Management Company within AC&R Advertising, in 1993 Merged AC&R advertising and Jardine Wesson PR with Cerca Advertising, another agency within the Bates Group. In 1994 Cerca Advertising and Jardine Wesson PR broke away from Bates Group to run their own operation also taking over Bates medical. In 1995 Cerca / Jardine Wesson PR Merged with East Shearer Advertising. In 1998 joined Taylor Made Marketing Group – Convergent Network – Jardine Wesson PR just before they listed. In 1999 Convergent Network listed Group merged with the Billboard listed group The Agency he moved in with The Agency as a business Director and ran the Option Agency and Jardine Wesson PR. In 2001 he joined Volcano International Group, Volcano PR, Brand Scan, as Business Director and New Business Director, also responsible for PR and Events. After years in the big agency business he decided to downsize. In July 2013 opted out of the Advertising agency business to become a full time marketing consultant under the titled of Digger Marketing
